The Titan’s Curse

Percy Jackson and the Olympians #3
Book 1: The Lightning Thief
Book 2: The Sea of Monsters
Book 4: The Battle of the Labyrinth
Book 5: The Last Olympian

Author: Rick Riordan

Pages: 312

Available now, in hardcover and paperback

Third book of the Olympian’s series. The first two books are “The Lightning Thief” and “Sea of Monsters”.
Where I got it: Borrowed from a great friend
First lines: The Friday before winter break, my mom packed me an overnight bag and a few deadly weapons and took me to a new boarding school.
Percy Jackson is back once again. This time he is accompanied by a few new friends as well as his well-known comrades from the two books prior to “The Titan’s Curse”. Percy is sent to bring two powerful new demigods back to Camp Half-Blood. But he runs into trouble along the way, and suddenly he’s on a race against time to save his friend, Annabeth, and to prevent a monster uprising against Olympus. Can he save Annabeth in time? Will he protect Olympus? Or will Percy be persuaded to leave his friends and join the rebellion against the gods?

I’m a big fan of the Percy Jackson books and this one did not disappoint. The funny lines-added in even at the most intense fight scenes-help to spice it up and sometimes even make me laugh out loud. [A personal favorite scene of mine from this book was the Hoover Dam scene. I never knew there could be so many dam jokes! ;)] I love the unique situations that Percy & Co. get mixed up in, and how Greek mythology is tied into EVERY part of the series. This book has me wanting to learn more about those myths. I like how all of the gods are modernized in their seperate ways, keeping true to the mythology but making it a tad more realistic by giving them more modern ways of doing their jobs.
I missed Annabeth during the entire novel. I wanted Percy to rescue her quickly-I wanted her humor and fighting skills back! I was sad to have her taken away for so long. I also wanted more scenes with Grover, but maybe we’ll get more of them in the next book. This one introduced, then cast aside too many characters. It was hard to keep track of all of these new people who appeared to be important one moment yet were never mentioned again.

Overall, this is probably my second favorite Percy book-better than “The Sea of Monsters” but not as good as “The Lightning Thief”.

“The Titan’s Curse” gets 5/5 stars. It’s a great book that you should all read!
