The first in the ‘Wicked Lovely’ series
Opening Lines: The Summer King knelt before her. “Is this what you freely choose, to risk winter’s chill?” She watched him-the boy she’d fallen in love with these past weeks. She’d never dreamed he was something other than human, but now his skin glowed as if flames flickered just under the surface, so strange and beautiful she couldn’t look away. “It’s whatt I want.”
Memorable Quote: And he smiled at her, truely smiled- wicked and lovely…
Favorite Character: Donia
Rule #3: Don’t stare at invisible faeries.
Aislinn has always seen faeries. Powerful and dangerous, they walk hidden in the mortal world. Aislinn fears their cruelty-especially if they learn of her Sight-and wishes she were as blind to their presence as other teens.
Rule #2: Don’t speak to invisible faeries.
Now faeries are stalking her. One of them, Keenan, who is equal parts terrifying and alluring, is trying to talk to her, asking questions Aislinn is afraid to answer.
Rule #1: Don’t ever attract their attention.
But it’s too late. Keenan is the Summer King, who has sought his queen for nine centuries. Without her, summer itself will perish. His is determined that Aislinn will become the Summer Queen at any cost-regardless of her plans or desires.
Suddenly none of the rules that have kept Aislinn safe are working anymore, and everything is on the line: her freedom; her best friend, Seth; everything.
Faery intrigue, mortal love, and the clash of ancient rules and modern expectations swirl together in Melissa Marr’s stunning twenty-first-century faery tale.
I’ve been looking forward to reading this book for a while now. I’m so glad that I did! The world of faeries as Aislinn sees it is not the cute and cuddly world that most of us think of. These faeries are dark and dangerous, ready to maim anyone that comes in their path. I like this new take on things and couldn’t put this book down!
Aislinn, Seth, and Keenan are such interesting, well-defined characters that I really connected to them. I can’t wait to get the second book and read more about Aislinn, Seth, and Keenan.
I can’t think of anything negative to say. Aislinn is a bright, energetic leading lady that is independent and won’t let her life get taken over by any outside force. I liked learning about this faery world through the alternating views of Aislinn, Keenan, and Donia. It was interesting to see how they viewed different situations.
“Wicked Lovely” gets 5/5 stars. I definitely recommend you read it!
