Summary:

 Against all odds, Katniss Everdeen has won the annual Hunger Games with fellow district tribute Peeta Mellark. But it was a victory won by defiance of the Capitol and their harsh rules. Katniss and Peeta should be happy. After all, they have just won for themselves and their families a life of safety and plenty. But there are rumors of rebellion among the subjects, and Katniss and Peeta, to their horror, are the faces of that rebellion. The Capitol is angry. The Capitol wants revenge.

Review:

I know I’m entirely behind on this series, as it seems everyone and their mother has already finished the third and final book, Mockingjay. And I’m hoping desperately that no one will accidentally ruin it for me. Anyway, everyone that knows me has realized that I’m a horrific procrastinator, even if there’s no real reason to procrastinate.

Back to the book review. Catching Fire is so intense! Because Katniss’s world was so thoroughly explained in book one, there was little to be added and extra details could be skipped over so the reader is taken right into the plot. Though I sort of already had an idea as to how the book would turn out, it was nothing compared to actually reading it. I love Katniss, Peeta, and the rest of the crew, and now cannot wait to read Mockingjay.

I love this writing style, which picks up during the action and slows to become more descriptive in other parts. I like how the inevitable gory details aren’t skimmed over, but the Games are represented just as horribly as they should be.

Catching Fire gets 5/5 stars. I highly recommend it, but don’t reach for it if you don’t like to read about death. Let the Games begin.
