Some promises are to die for… Angelina has spent her whole life thinking she was a witch like her mother. But when her family leaves the dusty reservation roads of New Mexico for the forested hills of Wisconsin, all that changes. Dasan Tallchief, Alpha of The Guardians of the Sacred Oath, walks into Angelina’s life. Suddenly, her head is full of native drumbeats and mysterious voices that pull her toward him. And the closer they become, the more they discover that her talents with witchcraft are just the tip of the iceberg. Soon everything Angelina has ever known about her life seems to be a lie. All of the answers surround the Book of Raziel, and as the truth is revealed, Dasan becomes the only link that can keep Angelina from being trapped in her own mind, forever.
Angelina is a very distinctive character from the start, and I liked her immediately. She isn’t perfect, but that’s what makes her special. Her home life is interesting, to say the least. With a mother who’s a practicing witch, and being a witch herself, Angelina has been considered an oddity in her community before. And when she moves, meets Dasan, and is flung into a whirlwind adventure, what normalcy her life clung to dissipates.
Drawn toward Dasan, both because of his good looks and the strange, tribal drumbeats that appear every time they’re close to each other, she hears his secrets.
I really liked the supernatural aspects of the story. Even in the beginning, when Jake and Dasan are telling the history of their people, it was fascinating.
The Sacred Oath is a fantastic book, and I was hooked immediately. I highly recommend it to anyone, especially those who enjoy young adult fantasy. I give it 4/5 stars.
Check back tomorrow for an interview with the fantastic Angelina herself!
